Hi everyone, im buying a 1986 lj 70, 2.4 turbo that hasnt moved for 8 years. Its been in dry atorage in the south of Spain and when i pick it up i have to drive it 1400km to France...So the question is, what should I really do to it before it starts on that journey? I though timing belt is a must and service but what else? thanks for your help |

I would seriously consider bringing it home on a trailer.
After 8 years as a non runner there are so many questions relating to mileage, previous servicing and general care or abuse that driving it 1400 km, including crossing the pyrenees, would be difficult and potentially dangerous.
If it has to be driven, then a thorough check up to our MoT standard is a must. Pay particular attention on tyres, brakes, suspension and steering plus a full service.
Good luck!

Thanks Roger,
Forgot to mention that it will be getting driven 45 mins to an MOT (ITV) station in Spain and put through, if it fails it will be repaired then put through until it passes. I share your concerns though. All the fluids I will be replacing down there. I just thought more along the lines of: are there any parts or seals that will most certainly be needing replacing before the journey starts?
Thanks |

If the Spanish test is to the same standard as our MoT, then it should cover the items I have mentioned but look at all the coolant hoses, the radiator, the cam belt and water pump belts.

I would do a full coolant flush and thermostat change, as well as what Roger said. _________________ It's Not a Bl**dy Jeep it's a Landcruiser
