|
|
Hi Guys
I have been looking for some time now to buy an Amazon just need a bit of help to enable me to decide what to buy for my budget of around £10k
Auto or Manual- whilst modern Autos are great not so sure about the older ones- I am happy to have a manual and understand they are Rare- do the Autos have any issues
4.2TD or 4.7 petrol with LPG- I understand that the Petrol with LPG conversion are as reliable and economical as the 4.2 is the petrol with LPG a good option
Air suspension or springs- is the air suspension a reliable option given the age of the car I would be buying- I know the air can be very expensive to fix
Sorry to ask all these questions but it a lot of dosh to spend on an old car??
Thanks in advance guys |

I have been running a petrol V8 Landcruiser with auto box for the last 9 years now. The car was converted to LPG before I bought it. (an OMVL Dream system which I believe is Italian) + a Valve lube system which I am told is essential in the 2UZ-FE engine. In 9 years of ownership my car has never failed an MOT or left me stranded on the side of the road. (It is almost 19 years old now) Things that have broke: I had some trouble with the throttle body housing, I had to replace all the drop links (as per usual for every 4x4 I have ever bought) I have had to have the steering rack refurbished. I have had to replace the rear load hieght sensor. On the LPG side, I have had to replace the injectors once (£80 all in) and the switchover valve (£50 all in) apart from that it has just been regular maintenance. I only use my car for driving holidays and shopping trips (under 3.5k miles per year) A landcruiser is not a cheap car to run. On a run on LPG I can expext to get somewhere between 250 and 300 miles from 86litres of LPG. It cost me about £140 to get to Anstruther and back which is roughly a 810 mile round trip - In total comfort) I'm would suggest that you watch out for rust, mine is just starting to rust, but I am keeping an eye on it and having it dealt with.
Hope this helps? If you have any further questions please feel free to ask!
