Hello

I wonder if anyone might be able to shed some light on a little issue I am having.

I have a 1999 Amazon land cruiser vx 4.2 Diesel. ( it is by the looks of it a Japanese import, hoping this does not make too much difference)

The centre console gets very overheated near the cup holders (and it feels like it is more on the drivers side) even when the dial is turned to cold or the air conditioner is switched on ( a/c also appears to not be working well)

The problem only seems to occur when the drivers window is down as soon as I put the window up the centre console cools down.

I have read online that it seems the heating controls are under the console so wondered if something simple like a pipe may have come loose if there is an exit or a pipe in this area. The window solution seems to add a bit of mystery into the mix which made me wonder if a pipe was being blocked or airflow being rediverted when the window is down.

The garage can't book the car in before I am travelling so I do have a friend who is going to visit and have a look and I thought if it is a known issue or someone may have a guess at a possible problem I could point him in the right direction.

I have a long journey through France - hoping its a simple fix else I will be looking very enviously at other drivers in their air conditioned cars! Very Happy

Thanks for reading

Sarah

Hi Sarah
I am not going to suggest I have heard of this one, but I cannot see why you should have these symptoms, but has yours got duel air con, (Front and back) ?
but it also depends how hot it is getting as if some of the insulation on the tunnel has been removed then you might be getting the heat from the engine.

The other thing is if the air con is not working there is poss a leak in the system and you will have to have that checked at a Air-Con Specialist the can check it out without putting gas in
