I'm posting this as an aid to others who may encounter the same issue and how I solved it.

My 120 needed new tyres and the wheels were a bit tatty so I decided to have them refurbished.  Incidentally I've had them finished in the same grey as the running boards and door bottoms and it looks great on a silver car.

Anyway the car has been up on axial stands for a week and I've taken the opportunity to tart up the underside and get rid of any rust not that there was much but I can safely say its now totally rust free.

I also did an oil and filter change while it was up there.   I put the refurb wheels back on today and lowered the car (very carefully) back onto the new tyres and refurb wheels.

When I started the car all was well except that it would not move - either forward or back.  It felt to me that it was a transmission lock as it was solid i.e. no movement just twisting on the prop shaft.   My intuition was not to force it by applying more power as  I felt something would break.

I thought that maybe with the car being up when I tightened up the wheel nuts I'd created some kind of mechanical lock onto the diffs??  The full 113 Nm was done with the car down but I remembered that the front left wheel turned a but when I was lightly tightening the nuts.

I checked on the plug in diagnostics to see if there was any faults logged but there was nothing showing.

So I jacked up the front of the car.  The front right wheel would only rotate about 20-30 Deg before going solid.  The front left rotated fully without restriction.  When I went back to the front right it then reverted to full rotation.  Put the car back down and all was well again much to my relief.

So I have concluded that somehow I managed to create some kind of diff lock with my manipulation of the wheels however it was relatively easy to release.  I might be wrong but I get the impression that if I'd stepped on the gas when it was locked I might have broken something.  Maybe someone who understands Landcruiser 4WD systems better than me can explain what I did wrong and what was happening - I'm sure it was mechanical.
