Had the thing in bits again on Monday morning, this time with no time pressure - and it wasn't even raining. I made another new pin with 30mm length, confirmed the spring at 20mm free length, greased everything and carefully reassembled. Everything now works perfectly as it should, so delighted.
As for the warning lights, I took a run out on Monday evening, stopped to fill up with fuel and afterwards noticed that the lights had gone out at last! Another good, low cost result!
Thank you again for all the help. |

Well, I bought the kit from Australia and promptly fitted it. It was fine for a while but I have had it apart a couple of times since to clean and regrease. It seems to improve a little with that, but not permanently. R always works, but going from N to D first thing the D light will not come up on the dash - although it feels to be in gear - and only a fiddle with the stick into 4 and maybe 3 will then get the D light to light on demand. Once over that it pretty well stays ok throughout the trip. The other problem is that anything below 3 cannot be engaged. The stick just doesn't want to go through the detent into 2.
My suspicion is with the pin holder at this point. You can see it has a bit of bell mouth around it - only slight - but how much is too much considering the length of the new pin? I'm also concerned about the failure of the idiot lights to come on - what part of the mechanism recognises the stick/gear position and lights the display? |
