Well I replaced the turbo on the 2.4 efi Prado as it was smoking luike mad and a "specialist" told me the turbo was shot - the tubes etc were full of oil so I presumed that was making it smoke (black smoke).
Gave it oil and filter change as well.
She burst into life 1st time no probs, and I had disconnected the fuel solenoid 1st to get some oil into the turbo.
Pronlems tho??
The very back of the turbo, I think where it goes to the exhaust?? is leaking oil, is this bad, is this one no good or should I have used a new gasket?
It is also giving out loads iof whitish/grey smoke that clears realy quickly when I rev her. Is this the cyclinder head, but I did put quite a bit of injector cleaner in the tank and there aint much diesel in there - could this be the cause.
The water didn't seem to go down and there is no white emulsion in the oil?
Any idea's oh online guru's, I'm desperate here for help as Im due to go Scotland on the 13th and need this car, without it I will have to cancell my 40th birthday bash with the family.
Thanks for any advice chaps. |

The oil has got down into the exaust system & is slowly burning itself off. i had a turbo go on my transit & after it was replaced it took a week for the smoke to fully clear, it was like following a fog bank being behind me lol

If its oil wouldn't it be black?
The smoke is white, I dont think its the cylinder head as its not got back pressure but as I say I added half a bottle of injector cleaner but only put a fivers worth of diesel in? maybe its that thats burning off.
Im going to fill her up with a jerry can full tomorrow and empty the fuel filter and re prime her and see what happens? |

If a turbo goes sending oil into the silencer this will burn white smoke from the exhaust system till it clears it all out, if loads of oil has entered the silencer then it maybe nessasary to replace the silencer. |

Take it for a long drive, get the exhaust system hot and working properly to burn all of the residual oil out of it.
Should not be leaking oil anywhere though, I would put a new gasket on any part that is replaced, false economy not to.
Blue/white smoke is oil, black is fuel.

Well the smoking continues - white smoke and copiuos amounts when revved even tho I filled her up to half a tank with fresh diesel.
No emulsion in oil and water not going down and no back pressure in top hose - so maybe head gasket etc is ok???
Could it be an injector or timing?
She is booked into the garage on Monday morning and I hope all is well as she is a lovely motor and I cant wait to use it.
PS the oil is leaking from the side of the turbo, no idea what its called but its like a nipple on the side attached to a rod that runs along side the unit? any idea's chaps |

Not sure what it is, but why not drill a smal hole in the first silencer at the bottom, to try and drsin any excess oil from it. This is a common fault when a tubo goes. |

If it was oil in the silencer surely it wouldn't smoke until the silencer and pipes were warm/hot?
The exhaust smokes immediately from switching her on? |
