Hi all,

I am in the process of having the underneath of my 1997 J80 restored, lots of rust found and a lot of cutting and welding happening, been able to solve most issues found but have now uncovered rust and a hole on the fuel filler pipe, a repair looks difficult and a new pipe is around £200, does anyone have any other suggestions for a alternative or do I have no option but to bite the bullet and buy new? Any advice welcome.

Looks like I might have solved this issue, Milner have a pipe for £107, if it’s is the correct spec I’ll bite the bullet and buy, fingers crossed.

They can be bought 2nd hand, but you never know the condition of the part, so you have found the best alternative, thanks for the follow up.

As a follow up to this the chap doing the restoration has concluded that the only way to replace the fuel filler pipe is to lift the body which understandably he is not keen to do, he is suggesting that he cut the pipe to remove the rusted section and then bridge the gap with rubber hose has anyone done this? It seems a reasonable solution.

That's exactly what I did. The "official" procedure is indeed to lift the body but I bought the pipe from Milners and cut it and rejoined it with rubber fuel hoses of the correct size. Way less faff and had no issues.
