I've read a lot of negative posts on lots of fora - here, mr2, Surf, Delica about this company, and I feel I need to say something in their defence...

They're a scrap yard. They're not an internet mail-order company. My LJ78 LC was broken into whilst on sale on e bay - I needed a steering column, ignition barrel & key quickly. Toyota were going to charge me the best part of £600 to supply the replacements (with a 2-3 week wait) I punched the details into 247 spares and they got back to me within 20 minutes quoting £160 including vat and delivery. I'd read the horror story posts regarding delivery and so decided to go down there and collect rather than rely on delivery...

When I got there I was quite amazed - they're a huge operation - but still a scrap yard - they don't have a call centre handling their operation - the guys you speak to are the guys who are taking the parts off the car. By turning up there I was able to see the part fully assembled, ascertain its state and tell the guys which pieces I wanted - they pulled the steering column to pieces while I waited and gave me just the parts I needed.

Whilst I understand that people have had horrible stories with body panels and engines bought mail order I would always be wary of buying an engine from a scrap yard - (I used to own VW beetles and have had countless replacement engines blow up because I didn't accept that they were simply off an OLD CAR) - The cars they're dismantling aren't always going to be in pristine condition - after all, they've been scrapped!

I would never buy a part unseen from a scrap yard if it was important to me that it looked perfect - I'd go down and take a look - then make my own judgement... The amount you're saving by going to these guys surely justifies a visit - that way you can talk face-to-face and know what you're getting. Plus these are face-to-face people - I was able to negotiate a discount and got my parts for £130 - a saving of £470-odd off the new price - true I had to take the day off work and spend £30 on petrol, but I'm still quids in...

By buying imported cars we set ourselves up for a fall when it comes to the parts situation - I feel that EasyJapParts are providing a valuable service in helping us keep our treasured vehicles on the road at a price we can afford - just remember that they're not Unipart - they don't pretend to be.

As a web developer I understand how easy it is to put a slick face onto a not-so-slick company - however 247 spares are just the middle man - you can punch a request into your browser and get back a quick, courteous response from a scrap yard - that's about 200% better than I ever got when ringing around my local scrappies looking for a coil for my 1968 VW - plus, you don't have to run away from any scary looking dogs or go prepared to clamber over a heap of rotten Vauxhall Vivas armed only with your trusty socket set...

I've posted this message on all the fora where I've seen negative posts about the company - I can assure you that I'm not an employee, nor do I have any vested interest - I just like to see both sides of a story being put.

the nature of their business is one thing, but if the suppliers accuse a customer of trying to cheat them probably just to get rid of them is completely different. a mechanic ordered an aircon pump from a specialist breakers and when opening the box the pump was so badly burned in a vehicle fire he was surprised the dismantlers could recognise it in the first place but accepted the pump back no complaints

Reality check. I have bought a part from EJP. I am totally satisfied. They could not have nicer, more helpful and friendly people.

BUT and it's a big one - I went to their premises to look at the part before I parted with a single penny. It may sound as though there are a slick operation with shelves full of nicely cleaned, tested and prepared parts all labelled up ready for their trained dispatchers to parcel up and send out. This would be about 1 billion light years from being close. They are a large sheet clad building with a mountain of filthy lumps of wrecked cars brought in by container from Japan. When you order a bit, 2 lads go out and wrestle the bit off with a hammer and screwdriver.

The office is manned by a couple of people wearing three layers of clothes to keep warm, everywhere is soaked in oil and dirt - it's a scrapyard plain and simple. How they get stuff out to people is a mystery to me. But they are on the phone constantly chasing up people looking for parts and dealing with complaints from people who are not happy.

If you need a corolla headlight - give it a try. If you need a rear axle GO AND PICK IT UP.

Tony, you did me a great part, tremendously happy - but maybe you need to review the mail order side of the business.
