No leeks whatsoever, brakes work ok. Rang another dealer who said there were no recalls for my LC, but suggested that what I had was normal!

PS, don't SHOUT

My 2005 was recalled to have it's brake master cylinder checked. No harm in asking does it affect yours.

Well, I recently took it to Toyota Yeovil and had one of their techs drive it. He said the kind of soft pedal I have is common. He told me that another garage had replaced a master cylinder for the same problem, but it didn't change the feel of the pedal. So I guess I'm stuck with a soft pedal with some travel, even tried bleeding them but to no avail.

Very interesting...

Was sitting in my 120 the other day wondering why the pedal was slowly going to the floor. Then in the last 2 days have needed to use brakes 3 times in emergency situations ( not my fault, honest!) Brakes peformed faultlessly, pulling the car up straight and true, ABS working fine.

I don't want to upset anyone but a braking system which starts to leak fluid past the master cylinder seals doesn't get better. It could easily reach the point when the are no brakes - or at best brakes on 2 wheels only. It's also easy to find that you are braking gently up to the point that you need full braking butyour foot is on the floor. Of course it's possible to release the pedal and re-apply pressure, but the loss of time leaves you with no room to stop.

In the olden days, replacing the seals was the sort of Saturday morning job that many aspiring mechanics learned to do. However, there is a marked reluctance to sell the parts now because you can get their replacement horribly wrong with the obvious consequences.

I would also mention that I have had cars (recently) with corrosion in the master cylinder which meant that no amount of replacing the soft rubber seals was going to work for long. The corrosion starts when the brake fluid is left in the system too long. It absorbs water (not droplets but as a solution) and as the water works its way down the pipework over time it will corrode inside the pipework and slave cylinders, but the master cylinder suffers first.

For these reasons, I would replace the master cylinder soon - don't leave it.

Willy

Well I think I've cracked it. Its normal and its called diesal creep. I found a brake site which went into great detail. Its to do with it being a diesal and automatic, and the amount of vacuum it generates while at tick over, apparently there is an auxillay air pump which could cause excessive amounts of vacuum and result in damage to seals in the calipers, so some creep is allowed to prevent this.
