Hi mate have you considered shipping by sea, might be cheaper, and will take about 2 weeks, I think.

Got the quote for it coming by sea, and it's not really that much cheaper, and it's delivery to Tilbury (further from me). Shipping quote by sea for 2 x rack, 2 x tents, aux fuel tank and drawer system is R5160 (£340) - delivery is around 6 weeks.
Again this excludes clearing/duty etc, which I believe is more expensive at docks.
I'd probably just stick to airfreight (2 weeks).

Hi Chris,

No not yet, the other vehicle going with us has had a change - they bought an 80 that had done the trip before, but weren't happy with - rusted though front floor plate, and big hole is sill etc. etc. etc. so they took it back, and are now also considering a Colorado, so I'm holding off until they have one, then we'll buy a whole bunch of stuff.
Will keep you posted on progress

Cheers
Andrew

Hello Andrew,
Is all the stuff you are buying in the Cape Town area?
I might be able to have it collected, and taken to a good shipping agent friend of the family.

They are
http://www.advtrans.co.za/ContactUs/tabid/100/Default.aspx

All their cargo go's to the UK via these guy's below.
http://www.southafricanremovals.com/

They will box it and expedite transport to UK.

Stuff is delivered to this ware house, where i normally collect.

Hi uk_vette,

Frontrunner are based in JHB, but I'm sure they could deliver to Cape Town. I will see if I can get a price out of the guys at Frontrunner (Louis) for delivery to CPT, and ask them for what the weights/dimensions are, but this will be tricky as we will need to have an idea of how many different pieces we bring over.

I know you are interested in a 70l fuel tank aren't you?
I am assuming somehting like this :-

3 x roof racks
2 x roof tents
3 x fuel tanks
3 x storage systems

Cheers
Andrew

Hello Andrew,

Yes I am considering an additional tank.
I am not quite sure what is available for the 120 series.
The shippers could just as easily collect from a central point in Jnb,
The primary requirements would be cubic size and weight.
i have been into there ware house in Cape Town a few times.
They have these wooden strange shaped containers, which I presume fit snug into the cargo section of various airplanes.
I should try to get the physical sizes, and the cubic area, as it would be far, far cheaper if we were to utilise a full container, and by the sounds of the order list, this is a real possibility.
From memory, the containers are about 2.5 meters high, and about 1.5 meters front to back, and I think about 1.5 meters wide,
Graham

Hi Dave,

I got my cousin to check out the kit in SA, he advises me to go for the Eeziawn rooftent instead of the Frontrunner - so I'll probably take his advice. Frontrunner are willing to sell me an Eeziawn tent which is a bonus as I will be able to get all from one place.

He also says the Frontrunner roof rack looks good which is encouraging.

The Rand has strengthened recently which is a bummer but what can you do, it seems to be dropping off again - lets hope it keeps going that way!!

I don't have any photos of the kit on a Colorado unfortunately, but soon will have Smile

Cheers
Andrew

I am shooting off to South Africa for a couple of days next week, and will be in JHB so I plan to drop into Frontrunner and Eeziawn - will attempt to take loads of pics of the LR tank and roof rack/tent etc.

I have other stuff to take of first but will do my best to get there

UK_vette I'll ask about tanks for the 120 while I'm there

Cheers
Andrew

hello Andrew,
Much appreciated,

Thats strange, the wife is flying out there tomorrow (Oct 15) to visit family in CPT and JNB

She will be in CPT for 2 weeks, and JNB for just the 1 week.

Well, images, brouchours, flyers of the tanks would be great.
