Hi,
I have a landcruiser LC5 and the key has basically snapped (well the plastic area has). It now keeps falling apart. I went to Toyota dealership and they said it would cost £180 for a replacement key!!
Does anyone know where i can buy a cheaper replacement and how it works i.e. programming it etc..
Thanks alot! |

If your key is similar to my LC 100 key (1998 model) then this should work. Ask Toyota for a blank key (uncut), this should be much cheaper, get it cut to the other key, unscrew both fobs, pop out the new transponder and replace it with the old one. I put the new battery in the old transponder as well. Mine worked as new . Hope this helps if your key is similar!!!! I think the key fob is one of the few Toyota weaknesses, they're always breaking!!!!

Hi
I have a Toyota Landcruiser (P Reg) and cannot find the keys.
The car is unlocked in my garage.
Can anybody advise how I can get a new set of keys - I live in France.
Many Thanks

Collect all the information you have on the car:-
VIN number
Chassis Number
Engine Number
Registration Number
Name/Address of previous owner
and go to your nearest Toyota main dealer with a lot of money.
If the car is registered in the UK, you might have to get a friend to go to a UK dealer to get the keys and the dealer might want to see the registration papers and be fed a good story before agreeing to get another key made for them on your behalf.
If you have contact with the previous owner, he/she might have an old key - even a non Toyota duplicate would help.
Toyota dealers have access to a lot of information on the details of most modern cars and it is surprising what they can find out about yours. Don't despair but it will seem like an expensive exercise when you get the bill.
Good luck

Thanks for your quick reply.
I will go to my local Toyota dealer in France, armed with log book etc. and see what they can do.
I have heard that you can purchase keys from 'e bay' - is this true?
Regards

Hi Amanda,
OK, that is a bit too far from the people I know.
When talking to the dealer, see if they can get a replacement key, otherwise you will need to change the locks which is expensive. _________________ Cheers,

Hi
I have been to my local Toyotal dealer here in France today - It's not good news.
As I do not have a master key I need to buy a full new locking system. They have quoted just over 1400 euros (over £1000 sterling) to supply and fit one for me.
Pleeeeeeese - can anybody suggest a cheaper alternative.
I am not too bothered about the car locking but I do need it to start the engine.
Regards

First step:
Perhaps price a new ignition switch, as I would think this would give you a new key as well.
This would be programmed to your vehicle , so you are now mobil again.
Second step:
Contact medium friend who could ask deceased relative to find lost keys. |

Just had a thought - is it possible that keys could be insured on either car or house insurance? |

You have the two broken pieces I suppose?
there is a guy in Manchester Smithfield Market.
He will cut and programme a new key for you.
£180.00 Toyota key for £35.00
Toyota are just greedy. |

Hi Amanda here - thank you all for your suggestions and advice.
I found the missing key this morning in the front garden.
I had covered this area with a metal detector loads of times over the last few days - with no joy.
All's well that ends well.
I will get a spare key cut today.
Regards
