Hi
After having a few problems with my cruiser like having a new clutch and slave cylinder fitted at a cost of 455 pounds i was bracing myself for more bad news when my injection pump started leaking.I think Lucky had the same problem with his pump, just a permanent drip from the side of the pump.I took it to a garage near my work place and they said the pump needed to be rebuilt, this was going to cost about 350 to fix the pump and 100 labour to take it out and refit.I know a few other lads on this site had payed far more than this so i thought i may as well get it done.At the last minute my boss gave me the number of a diesel specialist called stoneycroft diesels ltd,i gave him a ring and he asked to see the car running. After he had a look he told me that the pump did not have to be rebuilt, the pump on a early 80 series is jointed and has a gasket and that was why it was leaking because this had failed. It cost 110 to fix ,the car is back on the road leak free.It just goes to show its allways best to let a expert look at your pump first rather than just a mechanic because it seems that when your pump has a external leak its not allways bad news.

Damn. Always someone who comes up with a cheaper solution than that which you have just done Laughing

Good job though, glad you got it sorted.

Thanks Andy
The bloke who fixed it says that with a external leak its nearly always just a failed gasket thats why he always looks at the car running,he has taken apart many pumps and found the seals inside are fine.To many people think the worse and take there pumps off and say rebuilt this.He saved me a fair packet so i am well happy.
