I have just bought said vehicle but it seems choked up it will rev to 4500 revs begining of the red line but wont go any further. On pick up it seems sluggish when you put foot down its very slow to pick up till it gets to 2500 revs then picks up very fast.
Can any one help to get it to pull smoothly and has it got a rev limiter on, been told it might have, also that it might need a good decoke as these vehicles need to be used correctly.
please help |

Maverick..
I am a little confused. The 4.2 6 cylinder Turbo diesel red lines at just over 4000rpm, and to be honest, if you need to go any where near that engine speed, there is something wrong. The power tops out at 3000rpm and the torque a little below that.
If it seems choked up, it is almost certainly the turbo (especially if it is smoking a lot) On acceleration, you should feel the turbo coming in around 1800-2000 rpm. If not that then get the injectors pressure and flow tested (see Toyota or a Diesel injection specialist for this).
Let me know if it is an auto or manual also, and if you can clarify the engine and red line you have, I can possibly help you further.
Hope this helps though.
