I have a 1992 Landcruiser, 4.2 Automatic, and have recently come accross a problem I have not encoutered before.... Whilst towing 3500kg's in Europe, the Automatic G/box fluid temperature light came on. This inturn raised the temperature of the engine, presummably due to the exesive heat of the ATF fluid passing through the main radiator.... This overheating of the ATF fluid only occured durring the hottest part of the day, in the evening when the outside temp dropped the light did not come on........ Any ideas? I personally think new ATF fluid may do the trick, but I could be wrong........ Does anyone know a good quallity ATF fluid that would suit???????? |

I expect you will already know this, but if you drain the auto box sump you will only get a small quantity of fluid out, so it will need a full flush which can be done by a auto box repair shop.
The other thing is that might want to fit an additional cooler to the system, especially if your going to be towing that sort of weight regularly.
Have you stopped doing the Surfs these days.
