|
|
Hi, I have just bought a 1992 jap import 2.4 prado Auto 8 seater. On the dash it has two buttons, one for hub lock and one for 4 wheel drive. The 4 wheel drive button when pressed will not light up its corresponding dash light until the hub button is pressed also. However if the hub lock button is pressed it lights up it dash light with or without the four wheel drive button being pressed. My question is can you only have 4 wheel drive with hub lock on and if so why have two buttons to perfom one operation. Hoping for a quick reply, John F |

The hubs Need to be locked to transmit the drive. Is the switch for the hubs or is it for the diff lock?

The two buttons have different functions. The hub lock works when the vehicle is stationary, as secuity to avoid coasting, if at all your hand brakes do not function. However, the 4 wheel button is a release button for the 4 wheel gear after using it. OK! _________________ All cars run on four wheels, but Landcruisers have special four to run. |

Omar! Oh My!
Sorry but the H4 button engages 4 wheel drive (normally rear wheel drive only). The 'Hub Lock' button does just that. Locks the front hubs so 4 wheel drive is available. The parking brake acts on the rear wheels only.
Do not rely on the hub locks to stop you car on a hill. Set the transmission in Park and apply the handbrake. |
