any thoughts on slick 50, i know a lot of the arguments are against it and probably the best one is why is it not added from new, shell magnitec makes similar claims to slick, anyway i have always added it to my vehicles (probably the placebo effect) and have never sufferd any (known) adverse problems from adding it to the engine oil. has any one got any evidence that supports slick 50 claim?

I used to use it in my previous cars with no adverse effect, but now I use zx1 which is available from the club shop and I find I get slightly better consumption and I have done 67k without any problems. I do think it's a personal choice though

I stay away from additives, which are mostly just oil with some Extreme Pressure lubricant additives, especially those which boast something along the lines of "extends your oil life by XX, miles". Yes they might do that by reference to Extreme Pressure tests, but what about oxidation, thickening, soot loading, TBN (Total Base Number, being the alkalinity for combating acid build up) fuel dilution and water content?

Save your money, use it buy quality oil and change it more often than you really want to.
