Just a quickie hallo! Just taken delivery of my first Landcruiser. 80 series 1991, 4.2 Diesel Straightsix Auto. This is to replace my 1996 3.0 Auto Hilux Surf....just fancied something a bit larger. Thoroughly impressed with the Landcruiser this far.
Is it possible to 'bolt on' a tow ball to the existing 4 threaded holes on the rear bumper, or does it have to be cut away and have a regular towbar fitted?
Question Very Happy Question
Speak soon,
Stephen

Hi Radman

Usually you will see that people who own the 80s cruiser will not use the four holes in the bumper because they would make the towbar too high too high to tow your usual stuff. So it is usual to get a tow bar fixed to under the bumper with steel plates welded to the chasis on each side and then a ball bolted to the steel bar. If you want any more info just ask.

Would the 4 boltholes on the bumper take a fairly substantial towing load,ie. 1.6ton or is strengthening of the area required. I was thinking of using the mounting points on the bumper to fit a home made drop plate hitch. 8) 8) 8)
