In best 'all the gear, no idea' fashion, I spent an hour in the Rohan shop in Taunton.

Some great technical stuff, could spend loads.

What I really want is a good expedition hat - ones with an all round brim, but not the circular ones, more an aussie bush hat.

Any good websites?

Pete.

My head gets too hot in my Aussie leather hat. I only use it in the rain now.

Exactly the same problem I have - am now looking at a waterproof cotton one, like a Tilley hat I suppose.

same problem here - in anything other than the coldest weather I get too hot with a hat on.  Eventually I found this hat which is excellent:
http://www.rogue.co.za/hats.html#breezyhats great quality, the only problem was that in the intense heat of Indonesia - out on a sea canoe for day fishing I got sun burnt on the forehead in the pattern of the mesh  Embarassed .... problem solved now by getting the wife to sew a band of light (matching) cotton around the mesh on the inside - sorted!!!

Their leather ones are very similar to what I have now.

Does the mesh keep the wind and rain out?

Pete.

I have a Barmah Leather bush hat which is great and foldable as well. Highly recommended goes for around £45 in quite a few places.

You can get them here (first one I came to), I bought mine at the Cotswold Show a couple of years ago.
