|
|
When I bought my lc120 from the dealer, they put new 2 new rear tyres on because they were pretty worn.
It has the stock Dunlop AT20s on the front (prev owner had replaced them) but theyve obviously saved some money and put Maxxis HT760 Bravos on the back 2. I gather these are about half the price!
I was reading the manual today and gave myself a little shiver... the manual states that unless the same manufacturer, size, tread etc tyres are used on all 4 wheels the vehicle stability control may not work.
Is this true?
I'm a little concerned as one of the reasons for the buy was safety for the kiddies, (and a bit of greenlaning). If this is the case, is this a trading standards issue?
Has anyone else had a similar issue?
I dont want the bloody tyres anyway and am considering some grabber ATs.
All answers appreciated. _________________ LC 4, needs proper tyres, and a nice sat nav/dvd/ipod, just need the money first |

I would say that, given that it states in the manual that VSC may not work if different tyres are fitted, you should have a word with the dealer and try to get something out of them. However, their standard remedy for this would be to fit the Maxxis on the rears as well I'm sure. Phone them first and get a price for the Grabbers, and try to get them partway competitive with the tyre specialists, then let them know that you need them because of the dangerous changes that they made to your car, drop in mentions of complaints to trading standards, VOSA etc, and try to get them to give you at least one of the Grabbers for free.
I've fitted the cheapest tyres I could get to a previous estate car to get it through an MOT btw (tyres were under 60 pounds for 2.... which was about the book value of the car). Cost me 400 quid a couple of months down the line when they simply locked up under "just past normal" braking in fresh rain and I rear-ended someone, so I'd personally recommend getting decent ones all round. The AT20s are good IMO, I hear good stuff about the grabbers, and the Michelin Latitude Cross have been great through the winter for me so far.
Personally I would expect that as long as the same size of tyres are fitted front and back you'll have no problem with the VSC. Incorrectly fitted tyres may give you an issue (rolling direction) or mixed crossply/radial or steel/nylon belted or possibly tyres repaired with inner tubes (if that even happens these days). Just hypothesising though... |
