The tickover on my 4.2vx won't go down below about 900 rpm even though the stop on the pump is backed right off.
Even with the linkage disconnected the throttle arm on the pump is fully closed and there is even a gap between the arm and the idle adjustment screw.

Its still doing about 900 rpm.

I spoke to a local diesel specialist who was too busy for a while to get my truck in but he suggested I should look at the fuel delivery screw on the back of the pump.

He said that if the sealing wire was missing chances are someone has messed with the pump, this turned out to be correct. The fuel delivery screw was turned right in tight !

I backed it off and the tickover came right down, great I thought, I brought it down to about 600rpm and then put a couple of turns on the throttle stop to set the idle to 650.
Everything seemed fine until I tried to rev the engine, with the throttle wide open the rpm slowly built up to just 2000 rpm and stayed there.

Obviously there is a more serious problem somewhere, I had to return the screw to the fully in position to recover engine performance but this as expected brought the idle speed back upto 900 rpm.

Anyone got any ideas ?
I'm scared this is going to be expensive. I've only just bought the truck and its still under warranty but I'm not sure if the warranty will cover this type of problem.
