First thing you need is the OS map which shows large areas in a red border. Outside this you are okay but can only go inside it when the flags are down.
You will see hundreds of flag poles marking off these areas.
Be careful of the wardens as you can get in trouble for going off the BOATs.
Tommo on here can get a lot more info than me as he has a hot line to range control.

Basic rule is go easy and don't be a k**b, and you should be okay. If a warden has a go, just nod politely and vacate the area you are in.
