I had a problem getting a spare key for my '91 Prado (import). The guys here who can cut keys seemed to tell me that the style of key that I needed was 'unavailable'.

Eventually I found a key-cutter come cobbler, (usual thing, small shop in an arcade), who had a supply of toyota keys but not the right one. Don't lose heart yet.

The problem was that the shank was too short, and he solved it by grinding away part of the head of the key. therefore artificially making the shank longer. Total cost to me was £2.50, but the relief was immense.

From interest, the spare key I have is made by Silca - Italy, and its type is 'Toy 13'.

I've got a 1991 Prado, it came with one key. I went to a back street cobbler who looked in a raggy book. The keys are TR 33 type (the batch number was also in the book), made by Silca of Italy, and they are Mazda keys as Toyota don't make keys with a long shank any more. They cost £4 each.
