I just bought a Landcruiser Prado and wondered what the small red button is next to the gearbox.

hi carl

i think its somthing to do with safety Shocked norm you can engage drive with your foot on the brake Smile but if you select drive without your foot on the brake the gear selector stays locked in park ,with me so far Confused thats were the little red button comes in push it and select 8)

It's actually for moving the vehicle out of park if the engine is not started. All the Import Toyotas have them. Quite useflull sometimes if you need to remove the dashboard for anything - like fitting a stereo. Or also if you need to push the car anywhere if it is broken down.
