Recently bought a 4.0 diesel lc thought one day I'd strip out some wiring from the mess that is the loom and after spot lights, cb, and stereo etc I can no longer start the truck.

All it does when I turn the key is click and the odd lever mechanism moves on the engine. It doesn't turn the starter motor and doesn't fire when I put a direct positive feed to the starter. There was smoke from the exhaust when I bypassed the starter circuit but it doesn't fire.

Starter motor is good ignition barrel good. Solenoid maybe may have buggered up a connectrion?

I'm off to see if I can find a wiring diagram but if anyone can help I'd be grateful

Hi Darren. The "odd lever mechanism" is the EDIC,which is setting the fuel pump to start. You re probably right about the solenoid.
The wiring diagrams for the HJ47 will be in short supply over there. There is a bit of variation from country to country on the wiring around the starter/glow plugs/edic on these models.
This is a troopy from oz,right?

Thank you I've been on ih8mud but they are ignoring me bit of a pattern forming there Smile

It's a pick up hj47. I've managed to print off a 1981 wiring diagram hopefully it'll be the same

Try some of the aussie forums like outer limits ,lscool and 4wd monthly. There are some real experts who have had real experience on these models.
