|
|
Just returned after crossing Iceland in winter including crossing Europes largest Icecap Vatnajokull. We were a part of 12 driving 4 LC120's with the smallest a 38" tyred car that actually has been to the magnetic north pole with top gear...it was their support vehicle, also we had one 44" and two 46" equiped vehicles.
So we were really well equiped though it was a struggle, and crawler gears were a must. However we had mostly good weather, and many good northern light displays. On the top of the icecap it was blowing a lot, up to 20 - 25 m/s and the temperature was -25C so we had to leave the trucks running overnight, when we stayed at the Grimsfjall which is on the edge of an active volcano in the middle of the icecap. An amazing and surreal place.
We managed tp complete the trip without too many mishaps.
Much of the trip was orgainised by Arctic Trucks Experience, who also secured the special trucks
I have put some more photos on my web page www.dreki.no also there is a link to Arctic Trucks Experience
Enjoy

I loved Norway as a kid, although that was in the 1970's !
The sauasages in a wrap - not sure of the spelling but it sounds like varmepulsa, and the firclover (again, spelling poor!) chocolate - my folks go back most years and bring me chocolate back, I'm 45 !!
I'm not sure about Iceland for brits at the moment, there seems a lot of resentment about the financial situation they are in, long way to go to get moaned at - I'm not sure they've ever forgiven us for invading them in WW2 !
Regards
