Hi Guys

Nearly a year ago I fitted a set of BFG All Terrains and was disappointed with drop in economy, however I have just had to change the brake pads and both front sets were worn unevenly and it was certain the calipers had partly seized. So the brake problem had coincided with tyre change, despite going through an MOT with the dodgy calipers, fitted new calipers economy restored. I take it all back BFGs are great and I wish I found the problem sooner.

Dave

Thanks for the post, Dave. I'm literally just about to take the plunge and buy a set of BFGs, so your input was very helpful.  Smile

Hi Budgey, I've recently put on a set of 4 Michelin latitude cross, there's a slight drop in MPG but overall they seem ok on road, off road i do very little so i cant really comment, but they do ok when I'm towing and there,s no increase in road noise of the previous Bridgestones which embarrassingly i found ok for my personal use.

Have just bought some Nokian WR G2 all weather tyres (with the mountain and snow symbol). I know, I know, I must be sacrificing some of the benefits of a true winter tyre, but I am sick of paying the change over and storage fees, not to mention the wear and tear on the rims.

Having them installed in the next few days, and we'll see how they roll.

Hey Pragueprado!
I've been running the Nokian WR G2 SUV tyres for about 20,000km, and while the winter performance is supreme in snow and ice, I've had problems with premature wear and delamination; particularly on the fronts. They are deffo a much softer compound than a summer tyre, and I just think the summers are too hot and long where I am for them to be fit for purpose, as it gets well over 35 centigrade for months on end. Also, I think the roads are quite abrasive here (many around my area are concrete). It's quite possible that you won't suffer the same issues where you are, but I suggest you keep a close eye on them, and maybe rotate them regularly between front and rear.
Here's a pic of my right front:

Yes, those are looking a little ragged... I was in Bulgaria a couple of years ago and know the condition of those roads - Czech Republic isn't the greatest, but we don't have concrete roads or those temperature extremes. Oh well, ordered already so we will see!

Hi Clive. I'm sure the WR-G2s will be great for you. I didn't want to worry you, or make you doubt your purchase. To clarify, although mine have only done about 20,000km, they have been on the vehicle for more than 2 years, so maybe it's an age related thing rather than mileage... and they've been in some pretty abrasive off road conditions from time to time, it has to be said. I really think that I may have been running them with the pressures too low, too, so I've now upped them to about 2.6 bar. My rears were pretty much ok on close inspection, and the left front is was not 'too' bad (I've since rotated them between front and rear). The old right front (now the left rear) is in a shocking state though. I'm really in a dilemma, as I absolutely loved the Nokians in the winter - especially when driving in the mountains - and with that time of year rapidly approaching, I know that purchasing the BFGs now will surely see a massive loss of performance in this area. Part of me wants to buy a couple of new G2s to give them another chance, while monitoring them closely. I dunno, I will try and decide this week sometime... hmmm

I have about 40,000 miles on my spare set of Toyota 120 series alloy wheels and tyres in my garage.
They are 265 x 70 x R17 BFG All Terrains.

When they are new, they have 12,7mm of tread.
Mine have about 8mm - 9mm remaining.

They do last very well, and offer exceptional handling and grip.
I would suggest that the BFG AT are capable of 100,000 miles.

At the moment I have on my other tyres which are Mastercraft mud's
265 x 70 x R17, also on Toyota 120 series alloys.

Gra.
