Perhaps we're biased, but I couldn't really imagine doing what I do, with any else.

Only alternative's would be the pick ups with 4 doors

Firemac - simply that Jeremy Clarkson in a review of the 150 a few months back thought the car was rubbish ......  Crying or Very sad

Ah, right. Much as I enjoy JC's non-PC approach and his caustic digs at all things green, he is generally a bit of a *beep*. And, like the majority of the UK's muttering rotters, he has myopic adoration for all things JLR despite their woeful reliability. Admittedly he can't afford to upset the advertisers, I guess.

Strange that he castigates the LC given that he owns one himself - I seem to recall he did a sketch of him doing the school run in it - and he has commented more than once on its quality.

I've just read his review of the 150..............

I don't think he likes it much. But then he is a knuckle scraping Luddite who likes nothing unless it's got 500bhp, and can eat it's own tyre's in under a hour on a track.

As I said, he's good entertainment but has absolutely no idea about cars. And it's in the Times so that's zero credibility straight off.  Laughing  Laughing

I have to agree (slightly) with one point - the engine isn't that great in terms of numbers. The power and torque are relatively low for a modern 3.0 turbo diesel and it isn't even that frugal to make up for that ( I could have excused one for the other).

Let's be honest, in the UK the 150 and 200 are marketed and used as "Chelsea Tractors" and not really used as utility vehicles. So they need to be able to compete with similar vehicles - the LC trump card of reliability just isn't enough IMHO.

But reliability is what counts in 90% of the other LC markets, e.g. Oz, Middle East, Africa, etc. The UK sales are minute compared to all those others. Toyota's reliability & build quality is what has destroyed JLR's market share elsewhere than the UK & US where, as you say, RRs are just toys for rich folk who never leave tarmac (or drive very far for that matter). Having said that I'm willing to bet that Toyota outsells JLR in N. America as well.

That's my point entirely and why I (slightly) agree with JC on some points: In the UK, LCs are going head-to-head with various JLR products, Volvo XC90s, Merc MLs, BMW X5s Audi Q7s etc. even though, in the latter cases, they are not comparable vehicles IMHO. So if a LC is sluggish compared to a Disco4, X5 or Q7, then that is a fair criticism IMO.
