My 2003 touchscreen display unit that controls sat-nav, AC and the like is no longer responding to my fat fingers.

Unit powers on as it should but after a few moments with the ignition on it fails to operate via any touchscreen mode.

I am assuming that the LCD display has failed so I am on the search for one from the 'breakers' I dare not ring a Toyota Main Dealer for the price of a replacement unit!

My question is, are the units 'coded' to each vehicle or can I swap it out once I have found a like for like replacement.

Cheers all.

Tony

Sorry - still non the wiser I am afraid. Speaking to breakers, 2nd hand screens are circa £1k which I cannot warrant. Landcruiser is pretty much used for farm duties so I have left as is, but would welcome a repair from perhaps a specialist if there is one out there.

Cheers, Tony

Thanks, I did see this thread also; http://www.tlocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15718

Just wondering if I need to take it to an electrical specialist to test/check the relays behind the screen.

Thanks for your help Jet2work, and after posting a WTB for a working display screen on Facebook with no joy I thought I would have a go myself. Screen been out of action for about 6 months now and completely dead, so thought I had nothing to loose.

Out comes the old unit in one piece, easy enough!

Faced with a tonne of electrics, and wires.

Decided to have a prod about, and take a closer look at the screen..

Note circuitry around the screen.

Closer investigation it's clear that there is a break in the connection.

Bought replacement Toshiba screen off e bay, £100

New screen goes in.

Job's a good un'

All now working, not bad for £100 for LCD screen, and a couple of hrs, if that - messing  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

Thanks very much,

When I pulled out the LCD unit, the part number on the back was TFD70W60 being a Toshiba unit.  If you search the part number on e bay you will find the e bay seller priced at £100. Or the seller's website is http://www.fiesta-tech.co.uk/ but it doesn't show there, so best contact him direct. Support@Fiesta-Tech.Co.UK

I see that the unit is also used on some Lexus and Toyota models, not just Amazon and LX470 models, but may differ for other years as mine is 2003.

Pleased as punch, as Toyota were asking £3k for a replacement system.

You can see it is a design fault, as the moisture/damp/condensation on screen falls down and corrodes the bottom half. The circuitry over time was all corroded and perished.

No probs, very happy to share and help.

It's easy enough to access the LCD screen, just be methodological and don't loose any screws! The tricky bit is prising the ribbon from the circuit board.
