Hi

Are we coverd for this recall if the car is an Import ?
mine is a 96 Import.

Also read on an aussi site that some guys who have had the rear
axil recall done, are also having the ball joint's done under another
recall at the same time!!

From experience with a Hilux Surf, Imports are not always covered but sometimes you can get somewhere if you contact Toyota direct rather than a dealer.

Rolling Eyes

right then folks!

have just got off the phone with toyota
there is a recall in place and uk vehicle owners will be notified by post if their vehicle is affected
owners of grey imports (prado's, myself included)
have to make a formal request to toyota customer relations so that they can generate a case number to investigate further
affected vehicles were manufactured between 17 April 96 and 6 January 99
they will check to see if vehicle is affected and get back to you
you need to provide
registration number
chassis number (most important)
and a contact telephone number

the guy i spoke to said he was quite happy for me to put the details on the board
toyota customer relations 01737 36 36 33

Hi Tonka
Reguarding recall for axle failures on Toyota Prado  I phoned up Toyota as you did and they got back in touch to say it does require the recall mods to the rear axle ,took vehicle to local Toyota centre and gave them the relavent information ie log book details chassis number etc
They have been in touch with toyota uk and soon as they recieve the correct technical information they would order the parts and give me a time to take my vehicle in for the recall at no cost to myself my vehicle is

TOYOTA PRADO TX  AUTO Reg OCTOBER 1996
May be worth giving them a ring to check the status on your vehicle

Hi everyone
Took my  1996 Prado TX  in for recall to local Pentagon Toyota Centre to have new half shafts and seals fitted under recall,Had to wait for special tool to arrive for doing job thats what took so long to book Prado in for job.
Took Prado in on monday night went home in curtesy car job done by dinner time picked up tuesday dinner every thing ok and no cost to me .
Service manager said quite a few had been done around the country  thus the wait for special tool I think it is for removeing main driveshaft bearing.
So anyone out there with 1996 to 2000 Prado Landcruiser  I would suggest you give toyota customer care a ring to see if your Prado is one of the ones with faulty Half shafts

long story short

car was in yesterday ,all done Very Happy  Very Happy

besides i aint gonna grumble over £8, and they gave me what was left
The very nice lady on service informed me that toyota were very sorry vehicle had to come back for recall work, and that they had put £10 of diesel in and as a thank for my co-operation and understanding i also got a bottle of champagne Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy
oh and they also gave it a damn good wash, i hardly recognised it Laughing
A big thank you and well done to both toyota uk and Hodgson toyota of the Silverlink Newcastle. Very Happy  Very Happy
and to think, i thought they wouldn't be bothered with it being an import, sometimes you can never be more wrong Shocked
A very happy and impressed customer Very Happy

Hi Tonka
good to hear toyota treated you so well Very Happy
I've had my letter ,waiting to be booked in .
but listen , not to scare you - but watch that coolant level for a while at least , My coolant level was low at a service , got topped up and about a month later the head gasket went and cracked the the head , I needed a new head , alot of dosh  !! - when all I needed was a head gasket at first signs of coolant loss - I learned my lesson  Rolling Eyes
ok -just keep an eye on it Wink

hi geepers
to be fair, i dont think the coolant has been lost,on checking the level i just think the garage was erring on the side of caution
i think the coolant level has always been nearer to the min than max and i've never needed to top it up, i just think they've topped it up so that the expansion bottle level is now nearer the max  Smile

although i've heard these can suffer from head/gasket/overheating probs (i was advised on purchase to keep a close eye on the temp gauge)

thanks for the heads up though Smile

will keep a closer eye on levels in the future Embarassed

thanks again
