My 2006 Amazon has a problem with the hydraulic suspension. It goes up to the high position even when it is on normal on the switch. It goes up and down at irregular times and goes so high I can't reach the tailgate top door. Has anyone had similar problems and if so what did you do about it. |

Hi Lizzie
As no-one else has replied, I will give you my thoughts.
The self levelling suspension is 'controlled' by little slider switches on the axles which measure the actual height of the car. They operate something like the volume control on an old radio and like an old radio the control gets a bit erratic. Where the radio would then crackle and the volume change suddenly, the car develops the problem you are describing.
New switches are expensive. I have heard it's about £200 per. However, with care you can remove, dismantle, clean and reseal the existing units which should solve the problem.
A member here called Nor is the expert on this and I think he has posted a thread describing the process. His icon is a small photo of the switch I am talking about.
By the way, I think Toyota calls the switch something like an 'AHC height controller'.

Hi Willy
thank you so much for the reply, what a weight off my mind when there is someone out there who knows about such things. I have been quoted £2000 for the problem to be recitified and was sure it can't cost that much!
Will keep in touch on procedings

£120 here http://www.milneroffroad.com/categories.asp?cID=12196
But check the mechanical condition and security of the adjustment on the links first as well as the wiring connectors which you could easily take apart and coat with contact grease or vaseline before re-attaching. _________________ 1998 100 series diesel 1HD-FTE with about 170,000 miles and counting.
