Hm. This is the Lexus GX460 which, unless I am mistaken,is sold in Europe and elsewhere as the new Toyota Land Cruiser.
So why is this one deemed "unsafe"?
Well, because if you stick on a track (not the natural environment for such vehicles) hoon it into a corner way too fast and then suddenly lift off mid corner (presumably to simulate the utter lack of common sense and totally *beep* driving skills of some US owners) the back end "slid out until the vehicle was almost sideways before the electronic stability-control system was able to regain control".
Did it roll over? No.
Did it crash? No.
Did the ESP, given the laws of physics, large rotational forces, a high mass high centre of gravity off road vehicle being driven as if a moron was at the wheel, actually recover the situation? Yes.
That means this consumer group is implying that any vehicle without ESP must automatically be deemed wholly unsafe and that those which are equipped with ESP should be capable of redeeming the most gross and stupid driver errors under any and all circumstances or they are also wholly unsafe. Anybody else see a slight problem with that?

Be interesting to see if any of the US mad SUVs would have the same problem - I think so. I still think (although maybe I'm just a cynic, that the US car industry is somewhere behind a lot of this Toyota bating. GM and Ford must be really pissed that Toyota have ousted them as the biggest car makers.. _________________ 1999 Land Cruiser Amazon VX Active 4.2TD Auto

Ditto. Whilst Toyota shot themselves in the foot by not acknowledging some faults earlier, some of this stuff is just ludicrous........ _________________ '97 VZJ95 - Colorado 3.4V6 with LPG, 40mm Ironman SL, full SS exhaust, 265/75R16 Hankook Dynapro RF10s on 80 alloys and 195k+

I was reading about this last night on the web and looked at the video clip, thinking, errr what exactly was dangerous about that, that any good experienced driver would be able to compensate for (or not put it in that position in the first place). Would give a kidney for one of those new ones though.... lol

Because as a result of driving like a prat it "could" step out and you "might" hit and curb and "possibly" roll over.
They've got it in for Toyota ........... and this is a nonsense clearly.......... mind you, the way I've been treated re injection queries etc... I won't be shedding any tears..... customer service from toyota HQ has been very poor......
According to 'which car' this Lexus GX460 is not available in the UK. But it clearly is, as its the new Landcruiser - as far as I can see.
Apparently though - the 120 series was/is also badged up as a Lexus in the USA.
Reminded me of my old Mk 2 escort .... good reason to buy one as far as I can see ... if you loose the back end it just gently comes back into line , what a load of bull ~~~~ , the hand-cranks are now so risk averse that soon they will all stay at home.
The GX460 is the LC150 with a V8 motor and trim upgrades, a 4.6l version of the 32v V8 fitted to the Amazon in practice little faster than the V6 4.0l but the yanks love their V8s. The old live axle rear end cannot match the BMW, Merc and LR handling but I would bet it is at least as good as anything Jeep or GM can make in the states. But then it is open season for Toyota bashing. _________________ Dave
When the hell would a yank drive like this? My company is based in Kansas 65 mph limit and roads straight as a die for days! Steering wheel is there as an arm rest........ I'd buy the Lexus for sure! I tried out a ford f350 dual cab 4x4 pickup I would not like to have had that on the same track at the same speed
