I recently took my Landcruiser for it's 40K service. While there, the head mechanic came out and stated that Toyota are thinking of dropping the Landcruiser from it's line up.

Anyone else heard this ?

That's highly unlikely IMHO - have you seen the sales figures for the 150 and 200 series? They might stop importing them to the UK - that might be a possibility but probably very unlikely too.

So would Toyota discuss their future intentions with a chief mechanic ? that's just a posh name for a spanner monkey.

Well it looks like it's coming true........... to an extent.

Toyota are dropping the 200 series from the UK line up due to poor sales.

Having recently been to both a landrover garage to view the new disco 4 and also the toyota over the road to view the new landcruiser. well the disco is a much nicer place to sit and cheaper by quite a margin too! Folk who can drop 45-50K on a 4x4 are not using it for work they want a luxury status car. The disco has the status and the LC even though its more expensive doesn't have the status. Reliability of all the bells and whistles seems less of a consideration as many buyers will only keep the car 3 years....
At the end of the market im at reliabilty is more important, I really wanted a disco 3 but couldn't face the reliabilty. Very happy with my LC even though it was quite a bit more ££ than the low millage disco 3 HSE i was looking at Smile

Not sure that having a car known by every man and his dog to be unreliable is much of a status purchase (more like a fool and his money etc), but each to their own, i'd give me eye teeth to be able to buy and run a 200, no interest in any of LR's products, especially the newer offerings with ever more garish lights, old school for me thanks.
