Hi guys.

Apologies for registering and coming straight in with a question, but I'm kinda stuck.
Am the owner of a series 1996 24v 80gs. 80k, I'm the second owner. Lovely condition, but and its a big but, car has been in storage for the last two years whilst I was abroad. We've replaced 12v batteries with new but will not turn over due to not being able to switch off alarm system. Fob lights up when pressed but doesn't disable alarm. Have searched through here but unless I'm missing a post can't find one that covers this exact problem. Toyota told me car should still start even if alarm is sounding, but I thought the whole point of an immobiliser was to immobilise. Alarm is Toyota 364t, fob is oblong two buttons one red one black.

Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated, before I turn to an auto leccy.

Many thanks

Nick.

Not familiar with that system, but if you have two buttons on the fob try pressing both at same time, this acts as a reset function on some systems.

Hi Andy.

Yep tried that, no joy.  Alarm is Toyota factory fit. Siren is bolted to passenger side inner bay.

Just in case anyone else has this problem, I've fixed it. Assuming the "hold for 10 seconds" doesn't work and the battery in the fob is ok, make sure the batteries in the vehicle are sufficiently charged (ie completely, not "almost"...  Embarassed  ). Then:

1. Disconnect the batteries (both),
2. Insert key into ignition and turn to ON,
3. Reconnect batteries,
4. Turn ignition off,
5. Press remote control (black button) for 10 seconds.

The alarm should reset.

Incidentally, the alarm seems to be a Scorpion 5000, and it wasn't factory fitted, but it was fitted to all vehicles at point of entry into the UK. Bristol docks, apparently.
