I have a 1991 Prado, Japanese Import in good condition.
Only had it a couple of days. Hoovered it out the other day for about an hour, I guess with the interiors on and the battery drained.
I could not then start the vehicle.
Is this a common problem with this model. If not, what should I be looking for?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi Andy
I really appreciate the help.
You seem really sure that the battery is the problem, why is that? Are there any other possibilities and, if so, what is their likelihood of being the cause of the problem.
Cheers |

If it's a new import it's probably been sitting around for a long time, on the dockside and on the dealers forcourt, you could just try charging the battery, but I would guess that it's gone a bit weak. |

Hi Andy
The vehicle was imported a couple of years ago but the guy I bought it off has new TLC and the one I bought was most likely sitting around unused for long enough.
I have recharged the battery and all appears fine. If it continues to discharge too readily (for silly reasons, like the doors open during a hoovering) I'll buy a new battery for it.
Thanks once again for you help - it's a nightmare when you get a problem you don't fully understand. |

You can charge it all you like - if its on its way out then it will die pretty quick. get a new one m8. don't want to get caught out with a dead battery when you are out. especially if its an auto. _________________ '97 JDM 3.0TD Prado --> 2005 120 3.0TD --> 2000 HDJ100R VX |

Smiffy,
I have an LJ78 with 2 batteries. They are connected in parallel (12V output, double load capacity) both are under the bonnet end-to-end. One of mine was a bit 'cooked' when i imported it. |

Thought I'd come back on here to finish the story but must have forgotten, sorry to all those people who helped me out!
I stepped out one evening and noticed the radio gleaming away between the seats, it was wired direct to the 'always on circuit' and draining the battery.
Had the radio out and wired it to the rear wiper circuit but left the presets correctly attached, problem solved. Battery checked was A1 all the time.
Haven't had a problem since!!! |
