Hello from Pakistan,
I have just joined the forum. I have recently bought a 1995 KZJ78 with 1KZ engine. I could not inspect and test drive it properly and took the owner's description on face value. Wish I had done some more research. Anyways, now that I own it, I want to bring it to top notch condition as I plan to have a LTR with it I have owned two Pajeros; 1 MK1 and 1 MK2 earlier so I am not new to 4x4s but this is my first toyota. I need expert advice on the following:
a) I have soft / hard suspension installed but not sure whether it works or not or if it works as it should. When I press any of the positions on the button, the AMP meter falls about 5 amps and then goes back. I have not yet been able to test it off road and can't do it for some time. So how do I know if it works?? No light goes on in any position.
b) There is an ECT button just beside the hard/soft suspension button, but again not sure whether it works. How to find out please? The shifting is fine.
c) There is a lot of play in the steering. What should I check. Does it have an IDLER ARM like the Pajeros? Play in the steering used to narrow down to Idler Arm in Pajeros.
d) There is a lot of blowby in the engine. what can I do to minimise it and find out if the engine has enough compression? without compression tester
I am looking forward to a learning engagement here. cheers!!! |

Great post dogar! I too just got a 1994 KZJ78. I'm interested in learning about it but can't find much searching the internet. Anyone out there know what the axle dimensions are? Thanks! |

Firstly, welcome to the forum.
I assume that your suspension problems relate to electronically controlled shock absorbers. To test, try driving over traffic calming bumps ( sleeping policemen ) and see if you can detect any variations.
Blowby is caused by poor piston ring sealing. The only long term cure is an engine rebuild.
