I would appreciate info. on the availability, if at all, on the supply of solid NOT crush type spacer tubes for the pinion shaft on 8" diffs.

Cheers

I have ordered a spacer from the states, so the next thing is to organise the bearings,

soo

does anyone have the sizes or reference numbers of the pinion bearings?

Cheers for your help.

Update.

The pinion bearing spacer arrived so I stripped out the back axle from the motor. I removed the diff. unit and dismantled it. Both pinion bearings showed wear. The diff. unit bearing were fine, they are only a few years old. Checking the crush tube with the solid one showed the solid to be approx. 10mm too long so I removed most of the excess with a 1mm thick cutting disc and finished it off in my lathe. The solid spacer came with a dozen or so shims for final assembly.

Hint.

I used an emery sanding drum to ease the fit of the old outer bearing and used that for initial shim selection as it was easier to remove during this process. The pinion bearings are a very tight fit. The difference between loose and too tight was approx. 0.002".
I also changed a wheel bearing.

The end result is a very quiet and smooth back end.

And I finished just in time, it's started to snow.
