Can anyone tell me...

I have a 1998 Prado MANUAL LWB. (90 series)

Will the Automatic version fit the manual version? Before i go ahead and buy one.

TIA

In a word - NO.

On the automatic the Selector Shafts stick out of the front and the Transfer Lever Turret is mounted on an extension housing between the Auto gearbox and the Transfer box.

On a manual the selectors are internal and the Transfer Lever Turret fits on the top of the TB case.

There are a couple of other differences as well:

Auto Transfer boxes have three Detector Switches - on a manual one of them is blanked off.

Auto Transfer Boxes have a blanking plate where the Lever Turret fits on a manual.

Auto TBs don't have Synchromesh between High & Low Ratio - Manuals do.

It is possible to convert one to the other if you have both - but it requires a complete strip down.

I have a couple of re-built Manual Transfer boxes if you are interested. Getting one to the Falklands might be an interesting exercise though.

Let me know if you are interested.

Cheers.

Bob.

Hi Bob, Many thanks for all that,  I had a feeling the selector issue would be a problem  A garage here said that it would be a straight swap but another disagreed and said that they just spent 13 hours rebuilding 1 from the 2 so I was sceptical.

In a nut shell I need a manual transfer box ASAP.

How much would you sell one for? It won't be a problem getting it to the Falklands. We have a company based in Bristol that ships to us.

Look forward to hearing from you and Thank you

Lee
