Hi all - sorry if this is a super basic query, but couldn't find the answer in a search so thought I'd ask!
I have a 2005 LC4, bought secondhand but I'm sure was originally a UK model. Started getting flashed by other drivers at night so thought I'd check the lights. No tail lights on whatsoever, but the high brake light and the two brake lights in the left/right big bubbly rear light enclosures/housings/binnacles/whatevers were all working.
I replaced the brake light bulbs (the dual filament 580 types) but the filaments looked intact and replacing them didn't give me any tail lights. I then noticed the main wires going in to that bubble enclosure thing are a bit weird - there are three bulb holes/holders, one is the reversing light, one is empty (and the connector has no pins for a bulb), and the brake light has only two contacts on the housing rim, so no way to use a dual filament (tail/brake) bulb.
I then checked the other two light housings on each side (one in the bumper, one just above the bumper). The latter is the rear fog light, and the former has two bulbs - the indicator, and a TINY little bulb in a red housing that is apparently the tail light! Replaced it and voila, tail lights. But they are very dim, and very low (in the bumper).
Why is it set up like this? Searching online, it looks like I should have tail lights in the big ass housing thingys? How do I get these working?
Thanks! |

My Nissan Patrol was exactly the same, the upper lights only did reverse and fog, whilst brake, tail and indicator where done by the bumper lights. All you can do is extend the wires up.
Kind regards
Russell. |

Its set up like that because you presumably have a rear door mounted spare wheel, and when you open the tail door the spare wheel would cover the offside side light and indicator if they were integrated into the upper light units. |
