Hi, I have put down a deposit on a LC100 and pick it up this week. The centre diff lock when turned on responds with an orange light permanently on the dash which is correct I think. But when you turn the rear diff lock on, all I get is a flashing red light... is it broken or is this right?

Thanks

Ben

The rear diff lock isn't engaging (when it does, the light is steady).

They are notorious for failing as they are exposed to the road salt and grit and just rot away. The detector switch can also fail as can the wiring.

I'm afraid its one of those issues we expect to find on the 90s and 100s as they are now getting old.

What age is the car and has it been exposed to a lot of road salt or been in the sea launching boats ??

Around 500 for a new diff lock actuator, 40 or so for a detector switch and a serious strip down to get the old rotten one out cleanly (if that is the cause).

Bob.

Hi Andy, hi Bob,

Thanks so much for coming back to me so quickly!

I was stationary with the car running, in Park, in Low Range. I turned the diff lock dial and the red rear diff lock picture flashed on and off red.

Is there a good specialist anyone knows of to take the car to once I collect it, a) to check the rear diff lock issue and b) give it a top to bottom health check

Thanks again,

Ben

PS - The car is very clean, low mileage example - the undercarriage / components do have a light coating of rust which I was going to have cleaned off and rustproofed (again, open to suggestions on whom), but not overly and not used for boat / in and out of the sea with a trailer for example. I get the feeling the car's been sat for a while, and also that the rear diff lock has never even been used.

I think you missed the point ! When the car is stationary select rear dif lock then start to drive and it will then drop into lock (and the red light will stay on)

Feel like a right newbie wally now! But thank you, hopefully the rear locker will work then and it was just used error.

Centre diff lock seems to work fine, we'll, from a dash illumination point of view.

Again, if anyone can recommend a good landcruiser specialist to give her a health check after I pick her up I'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Ben

Mine is a 150 so may be different, but mine flash orange, then stay on once locked, flashing red means i am in high range or something else that is stopping them engageing.

Kind regards

Russell.

Hi Russell thanks so much, I have collected the car and after a bit of playing around the rear diff lock indicator now stays a solid red when turned on ie. No flashing. So I think it's working! Ben
