|
|
Hi All
After 2 years of ownership, the Duellers (well 2 of them) that came fitted on my LC3 are finally worn to the point where I'm looking to replace them.
I've had my eye on the BFG All-Terrain T/A KO2s, but I'd like to sanity check with the hive mind here before committing to an investment of nearly £1k in boots.
All the reviews I've read seem to indicate the the KO2s are easily the best choice for off-roading, but they universally indicate that wet grip on roads is the KO2's weakness.
I live in the UK, where wet roads are a everyday occurrence. My car is used 95% on roads and 5% on surfaces encountered while launching boats - i.e. wet, seaweed covered slipways, muddy hards & beaches.
The things I dislike the most about my duellers are the understeer on the road and the aquaplaning in the wet (they've coped fine with every towing & launching scenario I've put them in).
I know that the KO2s will fix the understeer, but I'm leery of shelling out for what are basically the most expensive tyres I can buy for the wheel size if the aquaplaning performance is sub par - especially given that wet conditions are so common here.
Summer & winter sets aren't really practical in the UK (due to the changeability of the weather - particularly in Scotland), so I've been looking at all-season alternatives and have come up with a shortlist:
1) Vredestein Quatrac Pro
2) Michelin CrossClimate
3) General Grabber AT3
What do you folks think? Does anyone have experience of any of these tyres vs the BFGs? |

Hi I dont know why folk have told you KO2s are bad in the wet , KO2s have a B rating for wet driving and that is way better than most Tyres including A/T tyres of other makes ,
right now 265/70/17 BF KO2s are selling for £118.80 each online at a company called mytryes.co.uk the cheapest I have seen this company changes its prices daily could be selling at £200 each tomorrow , I have had them on my lc120 since oct 2015 when they first came out . KO2s run better at high psi I run mine on 40 psi and the 120 drives great on road with mch better roadholding than the standed tyres and way better offroad with a smooth ride and without much noise , the 70 profile gives a 13mm lift in ground clearance and makes the speedo run at the true speed and at todays price of £118.80 they are a fantastic bargain I paid £160 each for mine in 2015 . |

Have you considered Michelin Latitude Cross - surprisingly goo offroad and great onroad - well priced too. |

Although not in your shortlist, have a look at Landsail CLV1 Trailblazer - it has a B rating on wet and has a very similar thread pattern to the Pirelli Scorpion ATR. If you drive 95% on road, then you don't really need to have expensive off road tyres like the KO2s, IMHO. |

Consider also Yokohama GO15, wet grip is superb, reasonably quiet, snowflake stamped so winter rated.
They don't come with a really deep tread like full bore AT's, but the wear rate i'm seeing is pleasing enough, i would happily buy them again.
Ran them at 35psi during the warm weather as they did feel a little spongy at 30 on hot days, soft tread compound for that winter rating i suspect but what gives the good wet grip i shall lower them back to 32 or so now its cooler.
Got mine from Camskill who had the best deal on them at the time, they were under £100 a few weeks ago for 265/65 x 17 which was a real bargain, but when i looked more recently they'd gone back up to £110, that will be about £2.50 each tyre postage, currently £111odd on Tyreleader free postage, have bought from both suppliers regularly with no issues. |
