Hi ALL

I’m the new boy this week. I bought a 90 series in the summer and have made some mods/ “improvements”.
If anyone would like details of what I have done and more importantly where I wasted my money or what didn’t work I would be  happy to share, however I spend my day in front of a screen so reluctant to post anything that has already been done or is of no interest.

Jobs in the order they were done:

Apple car play unit fitted to dash in place of 3 dials (altitude and tilt meters)
Replace all speakers with something a bit more modern.
Fit big amp under seat.
Remove ctr part of the dash and tray under climate control and fit graphic equalizer.
Usb charger in ctr console
Wireless charger in ctr console, the recess in the console is exactly the right size for an iPhone, amazing given that iPhones weren’t even invented in 1996!
Replace front seats with Disco 5 seats and wire in motors.
Replace carpet throughout with black
Re-spray dashboard matt/ satin black
Remove door cards, replace fabric with black vinyl
Re-spray door cards black
Re-spray ctr console and storage area black.
Fix / replace broken ctrl locking wire in drivers door (mission!)
Fit £ 12 central locking remote. (brilliant for £ 12!)
Fit sound deadening to bonnet, doors, rear panels etc…
Remove rear internal panels and spray black
Fill void between these panels and body with sound absorbing foam.
Respray exterior silver plastic satin black.
Replace all dash lamps with leds (except fuel warning light, causes issues)

Future projects

Fit 6 No. white faced smiths clocks where stereo was. (oil temp and pressure, water temp, volts, amps, fuel with warning light)
Fit toggle switches above climate control. (not sure what for at the moment but they look good!).

QUESTION.

Anyone know what is the largest tyres I can get on a std 90 series, currently I have 265/70/16.
And if I do a 50mm suspension lift same question applies.
Finally, I want aggressive looking tyres but sadly I don’t go off road (poseur I know!). Any recommendations for relatively quiet quality tyres at say £150-180/ boot?
I am sure this has been queried and answered numerous times but this forum is a big place, still finding my way around.

Hi,
It might be a good idea to leave the bling to one side for a little while, and make sure all the running gear and important bits are in good order.

Regards

Paul.

HI Paul

Thanks for your reply. I was lucky enough to find an almost immaculate example, 130K one owner and garaged. As a consequence, zero rust above and below! The chassis still has the original black Toyota paint and the body work underneath is still green same as the top half. Mechanically it’s almost new! So week 1 was new fluids and belts just to be sure.

With that in mind I realised that the car will probably outlast me, if I continue to look after it. So I decided to add a few interior comforts were in order, ie a good sound system and nice leather. And the sound insulation has made it far more comfortable to drive.

Any idea where I might find info on tyre sizes on this site?

Wow sounds brilliant!

I'm with you upgrading the interior... its where you spend your time! Need some pics!

Are you still on the standard seats?

HI Dave

Thank you for your interest. I picked up a virtually new set of 2019 Land Rover discovery 5 seats- they come unbranded and very plush!
Because Land Rovers are so unreliable breakers yards are awash with virtually new parts, the seats cost me £ 500, which I know is a bit steep but good VFM given their condition.
I’ll post some picks over the weekend. And if I get some time a bit of info on the problems I had, and how I got over these problems.

Can anyone tell me how to post an image, it appears to be a bit more tricky than cut and paste?

I upload pics to a free account on https://imgbb.com/ at 1200pixels wide and put the full BBCode in the post - a bit of a faff but works for me. There are other pic hosts but I'm too tight to pay.

Sounds like you've got a great truck.

Certainly is a bit of a faff but I am sure it will become easier.

Looks very tidy & love the seats. I think if you use the "BBCode full" rather than the short link you get the pics to appear in the post like Andy's rather than having to click and go to the ImgBB page and make sure "Disable BBCode in this post" is unticked at the bottom beneath the text box.

Yeah the trim looks to have painted up lovely, I will be interested to know how well the coating lasts and what you used....

The standard colour is a bit odd!

I'm not convinced about the graphic equalizer LoL  isn't that digital on your head unit by now?

I run a floating screen andriod unit so I can have Spotify and Nav etc without having to have my phone connected

Can you post a pic of the Apple car play unit? And the wireless charger thing, have you these done yet?
