Sorry guys I'm sure this question has been asked loads but I couldn't find a conclusive answer using the search. I have a uk spec 90 with the locking switch for the diff on the dash. Spinning the wheels suggests I have an open diff. So question is do I need limited slip diff oil or standard? The manual states LSD but its a Prado book. Can you guys help me please as I want to use the correct stuff

As far as I know, you can put LSD oil in a normal diff, but never put normal oil in a LSD, I stand to be corrected on this.

Locking diff needs gear oil only, lsd has different additives to work with the clutch plates…apparently.
Definitely not good to put regular gear oil in an lsd as you’d ruin the clutch plates (they’d slide and not lock)
Given the effect on the clutch plates of regular gear oil I’m inclined to think that gear oil is a better lubricant then the lsd one so should be better for wear. Also you can use the same oil for rear, front diffs and transfer case, pretty handy
