hi, my 1992 lj78 auto, wont start it turns over as normal, until batteries are flat, but fails to fire, if i give it a jump start , it fires up after about 5 turns, but has a bit of bluey white smoke, its as if there is no diesel getting up, would this be the case of replacing the fuel filter, or is there something more serious?

Have you checked the glowplugs are ok?
White smoke is unburnt fuel, so not a problem as such.
As you say it turns over till the batteries go flat, then that sounds as if it should start or at least fire even without heat.
There is a fusable link for the glowplugs at the battery connection. Check thats not blown.
The glowplugs are all connected in parallel, so you have to disconnect the busbar to test them with a multimeter.
They should measure about 10ohms resistance.

Hope this is of use.
