I have just bought a 1993 Prado 2.4 TD with problems. It runs and drives perfectly, and does not overheat, however the oil is mixing with the water!! The seller told me he thought it was the head gasket. I suspect he's probably right, however I thought there might be a built in oil cooler that could be the cause of the trouble. Does anyone have any opinions?

A head gasket set seemed reasonable at £56+vat from Milner off road, so I reckon it's still a good buy at £2000 with 70,000 miles on the clock. Someone tell me I haven't made a big mistake...please!...

Hello, check the oil filler cap to see if there is a white mayonaise type paste around it,this normally means the head gasket needs looking at according to the mechanic who fixed my dad's vauxhall carlton when i broke it at 17.
(I'M STILL SORRY DAD).

Good Luck Very Happy

There's no 'mayonaise' on the filler cap, and the water does not seem to be getting into the oil, however there is definately oil getting into the cooling system. It's not showing any of the other usual head gasket symptoms like overheating either. Hmmph

Another dead Vauxhall - best thing for it! Laughing
