Van Aaken make a range of go faster gadgets for diesel engined cars and are supposed to be OK. They have a sale on at present and you might find what you want here:-
http://www.vanaaken.com/europe/index.asp?pagename=toyota
The advantage of the VA kit is that it just plugs into the existing wiring and can be fitted or removed in 5 minutes (-ish).
I was thinking of getting my car done. It's nice to have a bit more umph because there are times when it can make a big difference even if that's only once a year. However, my concern was to improve fuel consumption rather than get the biggest possible torque/horse power output as increasing these increases fuel use and puts a bigger strain on the engine and transmission leading to faster wear and shorter life.

thanks for replying. Van Aaken don't seem to list a product for a '97 colorado with the 1kz-te engine. (its all D4D) i have however sent them an email enquiry.
does nobody have engine upgrades? i thought i would get quite a lot of replies to this.
thanks |

Van Aaken do a 'smart box' for the 1kz-te for £150 all inc. at the moment.its a sale item due to a move in premises.
although it sounds too good to be true, i hope it isn't as i've ordered one. i'll post on the outcome.
fingers crossed. (they have said that i can return it for refund if i'm not happy). |

That's cheap, interested to know what you think when you have the chance to install? |

What about one from Diesel Bob.
The Surf's use the same 1KZTE engine as the Colorado's, so the Bobbox Denso will do the job nicely.. |

Hi
I`ve had a Van Aaken box fitted to my 2000 LWB Colorado
for approx 18 months.
Well worth the expence . I`ve noticed an improvement in fuel consumption and the performance is alot better (150 bhp)
We tow a twin axle Caravan alot it will cruise at 70 towing and P----s
L--- R----s off on hills
We tested it last summer on a long run 1st with the box it returned 17mpg towing without it slipped too 14 mpg.
The box does tend to make it smoke abit on full throttle but it passed the MOT with it still connected!
Next mod will be a K&N and modified Stainless exhaust(when the old one fails)
Regards

Hi
Full instructions come with the box
But remove glove box ECU fixed to bulk head behind glovebox
splice into the wires .
I made mine so i could get to it without removeing the glove box
to disconnect if necessary.
Regards
