On my 1991 imported 4.2vx td auto there is a wee sign at the bottom left hand side of the bottom half of the back door in Japanese and English. The English bit says 350kg and Japanese bit says ...........well who would know!
Would I be right in assuming this has something to do with the maximum towing nose weight on the tow hitch? Or is it something else?
Sorry if this is a bit boring for you Cruiser heads but the Cruiser thing is all new to me and I want to get it right.

I would agree with your suggestion that it is the rated nose load on the hitch.

Most counties allow a braked trailer of up to 3500kg to be towed by the larger landcruisers.
The rule of thumb for the load on the towhitch is 10% of the max or 350kg.

Just make sure the hitch is suitable for the rated load if its not original equipment. Very Happy

Its the MAX weight to be carried in the boot behind the rear seats, because the floor is only thin pressed steel and there are no strengthening bars below it as on a UK model with the spare wheel underneath.

My spare is tucked under the floor at the back like the UK version. Would the floor capacity still be different? I've a photo somewhere of the under floor before we gave it the under seal and wax oyl treatment. I would post it if I knew how to ;-{)

floor capacity shouldn't be any different, the spare wheel mounting mechanism is mounted to the chassis ( the cross member that goes across the back between the main chassis rails.

If the towbar weight was 350k and was subjected to a 3G shock load (a big `ole in the road) the towbar support points would have a stress of over a tonne.
