Hello all,
I've come back to the cruiser fold with a 2005 120 series. Not a great spec (Irish cars are low spec due to punitive vehicle registration tax abosrbed by manufacturers) but very happy with it.
I was driving a 530d Estate for a year after having a terrible experience with a Nissan Patrol after I sold my beloved 90 series prado.
Anyway, I am hearing a noise from what sounds like the transmission area from inside the car after driving it for a while. Can't hear it from the engine bay. It sounds like some sort of tapping noise and if it wasn't coming from where it is, I would have guessed it was a pulley.
You can even feel it in the ground on the passenger side. Slightly concerned by it. Haven't mentioned it to the dealer yet.
Any ideas?
Haven't had a really good bonding session with it yet as I work in the uk and haven't had the time to get underneath it.... Don't even know the engine model number yet :(

Hi,
I've traced it to the brake lines under the passenger footwell. Linked to simultaneous high pitch pinging noise coming from engine bay. Car is back at garage for investigation.
Also, the EGR valce makes a ticking noise when the ignition is on but engine not fired. I can feel the EGR ticking when I put my hand to it. That's being investigated also.
I'll let you know how it goes.
On another note, I removed 800ml of excess oil that the dealer overfilled before I bought the vehicle. What a joke. I'm going to write a letter of complaint to Toyota asking them to quantify the damage that would be caused to the engine after 2000 kilometers while overfilled.
Cheers,

Hi,
The garage said that that all was fixed however as I expected, when I colected the car and droveit, it was exactly the same. I wrote a letter of complaint to Toyota Ireland stating that I had had enough of Toyota and that particular garage.
I'm gonna kick it in for a Range Rover in a few months.

A Range Rover are you mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry but if you want reliability you're going the wrong way. I had a visit from a finnacial advisor the other day, he was ex army, he said they would only let people driving LCs go out into the desert because they new they wouldn't break down. Seems like you just need to change your garage. _________________ Do more with less. |

Ok then folks, the cruiser has a second chance but before I drop it off to a 4x4 specialist (and not a Toyota garage) - can anyone tell me what this is: -

It ticks like a mad ticking thing when the ignition is on but engine not yet started. And uess what, my garage told me that all the other cruisers they have in stock make the same ticking noise. I don't believe them.
I suspect that it might be conributing to my noisy running problems.
I've unplugged it and I'm going to take it for a spin. EM light didn't come on.
Thanks,
Ken. _________________ '97 JDM 3.0TD Prado --> 2005 120 3.0TD --> 2000 HDJ100R VX |

Sorry mate Just had a look and a listen to mine, no ticking that i could hear, as to what it is ive no idea, at a guess it looks like some sort of air flow regulator between the intercooler and turbo? So no help there then! |

hi m8.
dropped the car to my trusty 4x4 specialist Derek Burton's and the head mechanic told me that the part is (cant exacty remember) turbo controller or timer. he said ticking is normal. So I'm happy with that.
Thanks for taking a look at the pic !!! :-)
