|

I've just had a letter from my local main dealer saying that my timing belt is due for replacement. They are saying 5yrs/60,000 mls, but the handbook states 6yrs/60,000mls. Is it a way of making money?. The car has done 53,000mls and is coming up for its 5th birthday next week. Any opinions welcome
Many thanks

Roy,
Typically whatever comes first.
Looks like you might be hitting the 60k, so just get it done with a service.
It's not a big job on the D4-d,
For me, if they want to do it, them there must be a good reason.
I would rather get it done early, than live on borrowed time. |

Hi df1603,
Quote ?
You wont get a quote from Toyota, they will work on their book of man hours per job.
They have a list of every job, and there is a time set against it..
The hours is then simply multiplied by the rate.
If the technecian stuggles, and it takes him an hour longer, then you still pay the same price. |

I know this could be a common practice but if you insist you can get a something that is close to a fixed price,
it all depends on the dealer, last time I had a gear selector broken and I called few dealers for a quote,
they calculated the total price incl. cost of material, estimated labor/time per hourly rate, vat, etc. Finally I made my selection based on their quotes/availability...
eventually I ended up paying exactly what they have quoted.......no extras nor hidden costs... |

Boonie, the 120 series is not a Colorado.
However, some of the last Colarado's built did get the D4d engine, which all the diesel 120 series have.
Err, I think that right, |

They need replacing either at 60K or 100K depends on the engine type, they changed in 03. Give your reg no. to the dealer and they can tell you which engine you have. |
