As a matter of interest has anyone ever put together a list of parts that are identical between series / models i.e. bushes, brake parts, springs etc etc, manufacturers rarely go up a series and totally redesign 'every' part, some parts may even be common to other cars - think VW / Audi and Skoda there is a huge amount of interchangeable parts between them.

I think we need a forum / page where members can list any suppliers and what they specialise in - this will back up the rate a supplier forum.

Interesting idea.

I would like to add that it's a shame Toyota (UK, whatever) hasn't appreciated the opportunity to run a web site 'shop' selling bits to you and me.

It gets up my nose that I can buy a part for my amazon from the internet and get it delivered to my home (from Australia if necessary - I've done it). And do this quicker, cheaper and with less effort than getting a part from my local (8 miles away) Toyota dealer. This generally involves two trips (at least - three when they get the wrong part - again this has happened more than once recently) and a price which looks close to extortion.

I know I can get lots of standard bits from places like Milners (hooray!). While I suppose Toyota owes a small debt to its dealers and has to support them, I see this as a one sided arrangement. I can foresee a time when there are no dealers (well, as they exist now anyway). We will just order our cars direct from Toyota in Japan. DHL will deliver the car to your door. The car will never go wrong so there is no need for a dealer to fix it and any maintenance parts you need can come the same way as the car.

However, I am afflicted with strange ideas which I see as logical but have to accept as unlikely.

Willy

Everyone talks about it but the task is huge and the parts are not nearly as interchangeable as you would think.
