I have noticed that when my air con was left on with the vehicle ticking over on the driveway......that the pitch of my engine changes then there appears to be a rattle, then the pitch drops and obviously the rattle stops, it does appear to be coming from the air con unit, I assume this rattle especially is cause for concern.  Rolling Eyes

That's the compressor clicking in and out with the temperature. It places load on the engine, hence the rise in revs to compensate. This is why running you AC uses more fuel. You don't get owt for nowt. But normal unless the noise is really bad indicating worn bearings etc.

Hi there just a word about your air con, i have just priced up a new air con unit with toyota and if it needs a new clutch on the front pully i am looking at £700 + vat supply only, I am trying to find someone who can recon an old unit in the North West as no one on the net seens to stock or get hold of this type of unit.
Any ideas would be great.
PS good luck with your own probs hope it turns into nothing.

LC3 AUTO 53 PLATE. (46000MILES) bit p**sed of as i dont think this unit should fail at this age and milage. Question

I am sure I have seen someone in our neck of the woods.....I will re trace my checking.

And as for as your bit in the signature.......my mates air con went within a couple of years of buying a brand new Ford Focus......possible reason....lack of use.  Rolling Eyes

Just in case someone reading this does not know, You should use the air con at least once a week for at least 15 mins so that the unit and seals are being lubricated.
